About Little Mass

For some people, they are gifted with talents and opportunities that others lack, but their passion and interest seems to wander else where. For Tina Chang, she loves art and her passion focuses solely on fashion. Inspired by Japanese manga books such as “Candy Candy”, Tina knew art was her calling. Her doodles turned to her own comics; she became skilled in drawing at a young age. Tina wanted a career that required her talent to be creative and artistic. Unsure to what career to choose, she was determined to discover her vocation. Drawing wasn't the only art Tina learned; she tried water color, oil painting, acrylic in junior high. She fell in love with Renaissance and impressionism. She thought that she would become a normal fine artist, but high school had changed her mind.

During high school, Tina had stopped drawing and had forgotten everything about art. She wanted to try something new. Fashion had come to interest. She felt as if fashion was her profession. Every one needs a place to start, the first step towards reaching the dream. Tina's first step was laying her younger sister, Hannah, on a sheet of fabric and outlined her first real pattern. She made her first article of clothing. Tina felt proud and had a sense of accomplishment. She knew well that fashion was her calling.

The next step towards becoming a fashionista was spending her college life in Otis Parson, a fashion school, in Los Angeles. Then she was given an opportunity of a life time. She went to Paris to advance on her studies about fashion. Paris gave her a chance to learn, not only about clothing, but about life. Living abroad h ad opened Tina's eyes. She realized there are more diverse things in life like different types of people, interesting cultures, antique clothing, and so many different cheeses. It changed how she thought and viewed the aspects of art and life. She believes that creative people have to be proactive about what they believe in. An artistic life is creative and never plain. It's only as good as you make it. There's always something different out there and you can take it and add your sense of individuality.

Tina and Hannah launched Little Mass in 1997. They started a girls clothing line that fulfilled Tina's dream to become fashion designer. It started as a small company and grew over the years. Tina adds in tasteful, creative, and funky styles in her designs, using fabrics imported from Europe, China, and other places around the world. Being a find mix of European and Hollywood styles, Little Mass became a trademark of its own. Thanks to Hannah's business sense and Tina's creativity, Little Mass expanded two new divisions in 2004: Tru Luv, a fashion forward, pre-teen sportswear and Le Pink, special occasion dress line for infants and up to pre-teens. With the help of supportive customers and hard work, the company will always consist of new and innovative styles. Proud of what the company accomplished, Little mass hopes for a brighter and successful future.
